A California woman has reached the halfway point in her 3,652-mile journey along U.S. Route 6 and is expected to reach the Gretna area on Monday.
Long-distance runner and singer/songwriter Aprylle Gilbert entered Nebraska on July 7 and averages 30 miles per day, which will place her in the local area sometime over the weekend or early next week.
The resident of San Jose, Calif., began her journey on May 11 in Long Beach, Calif., and plans to continue to Provincetown, Mass.
Gilbert would be the first person to run U.S. Route 6 from coast to coast, according to the U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association.
Her coast-to-coast charity run is in support of Washington United Youth Center in Santa Clara County, Calif., a nonprofit organization providing afterschool care for underserved children.
Gilbert plans to write a book and produce a video of her adventure when the run is finished.
